Near-peer medical mentorship

Corey Ambrose, MD
Los Angeles, CA
I wouldn’t be where I am today without mentors helping me along the way. Having navigated the complexities of med school, ERAS and the match process, I’m dedicated to providing that same realistic strategy and support to help you make confident career decisions. Happy to help students avoid some of the mistakes that I made in whatever way possible!

“Corey was very helpful. I appreciated him sharing how he goes about preparing for cases and how I can implement that for my upcoming away rotations. He was also very direct on how I should go about securing LORs and how to approach my personal statement.”

“I did a practice interview and found it very helpful. It gave me exposure to the types of questions interviewers commonly ask and the chance to practice my responses. It also helped me with timing, which I had been struggling with given how fast-paced interviews can feel. The mix of standard and more challenging questions was very relevant - I was asked nearly all questions in future interviews. The feedback was the most valuable part. It helped me refine my answers to be more concise and polished, and it made me aware of filler words or repetitive phrasing I hadn't noticed before. Overall, the opportunity to practice significantly boosted my confidence going into my interviews.”

“The most helpful part of the session was the discussion regarding research projects. I especially appreciated guidance in identifying the most active and promising projects within the department, as well as highlighting opportunities that would best strengthen my application for a general surgery residency. Your insight into how to strategically choose and structure research involvement was extremely valuable and has given me much clearer direction moving forward.”
